MathVoice for OneNote
Dictate equations by voice into OneNote — on the web today's browser surface, and on the Windows desktop app.
Two ways to use MathVoice with OneNote
OneNote on the web — coming via the Chrome extension
The MathVoice Chrome extension is gaining support for OneNote notebooks in the browser (onenote.com, the office.com notebook app, and notebooks opened from OneDrive). This update is built and pending Chrome Web Store review.
- Open your notebook, open the MathVoice side panel, and speak or type
- Insert delivers the equation to the OneNote page canvas; if OneNote declines the paste, the LaTeX is on your clipboard for a manual Ctrl/⌘+V
- Universal copies also available: LaTeX, MathML, and UnicodeMath
Limitation: OneNote's web canvas has no equation API, so equations are inserted as LaTeX text rather than native OneNote equation objects, and MathVoice cannot read equations back out of the page.
OneNote desktop (Windows) — in development
An Office task pane add-in for the OneNote desktop app is in development. It inserts equations as rendered images with a LaTeX fallback. There is no download yet — this page will link the listing when it ships.
How the web flow works
- Install the MathVoice extension from the Chrome Web Store
- Once the OneNote update is approved, open any notebook in the browser
- Click the MathVoice icon to open the sidebar
- Click the microphone and speak, or type LaTeX
- Click Apply — the equation is pasted into the page
