MathVoice for Firefox
The same extension, as a Firefox add-on — voice-edit equations in Overleaf, Notion, Roam Research, Desmos, Word Online, OneNote and Google Docs.
Where this stands
The Firefox port is built and passing its checks, and is not yet listed on addons.mozilla.org. We would rather say that plainly than publish a date we might miss. If you want to be told when it lands, drop us a line.
Same capabilities as the Chrome extension
The Firefox add-on is built from the same source as the Chrome build, so the platform support and its limits are identical — including the two surfaces that cannot be written to directly. See the Chrome extension page for the full platform-by-platform capability table.
- Direct write-back — Overleaf, Notion, Roam Research, Desmos, Word Online
- Paste-based insert — OneNote on the web (no equation API)
- Clipboard mode — Google Docs (the page is a canvas; nothing to write into)
- Any other site — enable it per origin from the sidebar
What differs from Chrome
Firefox and Chrome diverge on extension APIs, so a few internals are built differently. None of this changes what you can do:
| Area | How it differs |
|---|---|
| Sidebar | Firefox's own sidebar rather than Chrome's side panel. It opens from the toolbar button, and can be docked to either side of the window. |
| Desmos | Firefox does not let an extension run a content script directly in the page's JavaScript world, so MathVoice injects its Desmos bridge as a page script instead. Loading and applying expressions works the same way. |
| Background | An event page instead of a service worker — Firefox has no extension service worker under Manifest V3. |
Privacy — unchanged
No new permissions and no new data flows. MathVoice requests no host access at install time beyond the platforms listed above; any other site is granted one origin at a time, by you, from the sidebar. See the privacy policy and the permissions table on the Chrome page, which applies verbatim.
